This paper deals with the polarization effect on the antenna measurement near structures. To demonstrate its effect, the reflection coefficient (S11) is characterized experimentally using a triangular microstrip antenna array with circular polarization capability, whereby the results are plotted together with the ones of linearly-polarized antenna for comparison. The characterization is performed in close proximity to steel cabinet, solid wall, and pyramidal absorber at the desirable resonant frequency of 3.5 GHz. Moreover, the separation between the antenna under test and the structures is adjusted step-by-step from 0 to 4λ0. The characterization results demonstrate that the circularly-polarized antenna can provide superior performance compared to the linearly-polarized antenna when the antenna has to be arranged in the vicinity of other structures. © 2024 IEEE.
