This study delves into the critical role of environmental conditions, particularly lighting, in enhancing sustained and productive work in computer and meeting rooms at The University of Kitakyushu. Focused on student-designated spaces, the research acknowledges the extended periods and intense concentration demanded by computer-related tasks. Utilizing experiments, equipment measurements, and a comprehensive questionnaire, the study evaluates natural light penetration, daylight factors, and user sentiments. Analysis reveals disparities in the CAD 1 room's lighting, particularly at points 2 and 4, underscoring the need for improvement. Despite efforts, the computer room falls short of the Japan Industrial Standard for lighting standard, emphasizing the imperative for enhancements. Comparative assessments indicate better performance in meeting rooms, yet energy consumption challenges persist. Student feedback advocates adjustable lighting, prompting recommendations for meeting room relocation and diverse lighting sources. The overarching suggestion proposes room openings on two sides to boost natural lighting, reducing energy consumption. In conclusion, this research offers valuable insights for optimizing lighting conditions in student workspaces, aligning with the distinct demands of extended computer use and promoting enhanced productivity and well-being. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
