This study leverages the increasing need for renewable and independent energy sources by developing photovoltaics system within a hybrid microgrid in order to supply modern housing. Bidirectional converter integration plays a critical role in connecting DC and AC microgrids, incorporating renewable energy sources, enhancing energy transfer, and enabling consumer energy independence. The study aims to enhance the performance of the hybrid microgrids by focusing on the bus voltage stability and the harmonic values under various DC bus loads and source conditions. The proposed control approach integrates a PID control technique with adaptive hysteresis bands to facilitate power transfer between two microgrids, maintain stable DC bus voltage, and minimize current harmonics. The results show that the DC bus voltages remain stable with a deviation of less than 2.5% during changes in the DC source or load. The AC side voltage remains constant, and low average Total Harmonic Distortion (0.23% for voltage and 2.96% for current) ensures high-quality voltage across both microgrids. The bidirectional converter also efficiently enables maximum power transfer from the DC microgrid to AC and DC loads, functioning as both an inverter and rectifier with efficiency 98.23% and 91% respectively. Overall, the proposed control system can be further developed for the AC-DC bidirectional converters in hybrid microgrid systems and could potentially reduce the need for multistage converters. © 2024 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l.-All rights reserved.
