Jakarta is an industrial and biggest Government city in Indonesia, making Jakarta one of the provinces in Indonesia that uses groundwater a lot in various activities. Excessive groundwater extraction will cause a vacuum in soil pores so that hydrostatic pressure in the confined aquifer layer will be reduced, and rock compaction will occur in the confined aquifer layer, which will cause damage to the confined aquifer layer. Many studies show that water table decline data can describe the damage factor to the confined aquifer layer. However, the lack of groundwater observation wells causes a decline in water table data in Jakarta. Many GNSS observation points are spread in Jakarta, which can help observe the land subsidence phenomenon. Various studies also state a correlation between land subsidence data and water table decline. This study aims to change GNSS measurement data that can describe the phenomenon of land subsidence into water table decline data through simple average equations from various correlation graphs between land subsidence data and water tables in various countries. The analysis shows that Jakarta’s overall confined aquifer situation is low in southern Jakarta and high in northern Jakarta. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
