Abstract

This study investigates the impact of May 2024 solar and geomagnetic storms on the orbital parameters of an Indonesian GEO satellite, given an initial IND4x, using STL decomposition analysis. We identify significant correlations between storm events and variations in orbital parameters by analyzing the observed, trend, seasonal, and residual components of the time series data. The trend component exhibits corresponding increases during May 2024, reinforcing the storms’ influence on the overall dataset. Notable perturbations—such as a 2.5 km drop in semi-major axis and a 0.04° change in inclination—coincided with the May 10–12 storm period defined by Dst minima, reinforcing a direct link between extreme space weather and satellite dynamics. These findings underscore the substantial effects of solar storm events on the orbital parameters of the IND4x satellite, providing valuable insights for future satellite operations and storm impact mitigation strategies. © 2025 COSPAR.
