Abstract

According to the Indonesian Disaster Risk Index (IRBI), Purworejo Regency is characterized by a significant tsunami risk. This region is situated within the "Ring of Fire"and in proximity to the Indo-Australian Plate subduction zone, which is susceptible to megathrust events capable of generating underwater earthquakes with magnitudes up to 8.9, potentially resulting in tsunamis reaching heights of 20 meters. This study aims to perform spatial modelling of tsunami threats and formulate mitigation strategies to reduce regional disaster risk. The analytical approach is based on analyzing the geographical information system (GIS). To develop a tsunami risk map, this research integrates various spatial factors, including beach elevation, proximity to the shoreline, slope angle, population density, and land use. Historical tsunami data, bathymetric profiles, and run-up simulations were utilized to validate and enhance the spatial model. The identified hazard zones were subsequently overlaid with critical infrastructure and organizational areas to pinpoint vulnerable zones. Based on the spatial analysis, this study proposes a disaster mitigation plan encompassing evacuation routes, tsunami shelters, zoning regulations, and community-based preparedness programs. Integrating spatial modelling with local mitigation planning is anticipated to enhance resilience and mitigate the potential impact of future tsunamis in Purworejo Regency.
