The Girigondo Cemetery Strategic Area, located in Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta, is a site of high cultural and historical value but is increasingly threatened by landslide hazards. Despite its importance, limited research has examined the integration of geomorphological conditions, soil characteristics, rainfall patterns, and anthropogenic factors in assessing landslide risks for heritage areas. This study addresses that gap by analyzing slope gradients, Latosol soil susceptibility, and the impacts of abandoned stone mining under high rainfall conditions. Using geospatial mapping, field observations, and the Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) method, the results indicate that the northern and northwestern slopes are highly vulnerable, with a risk matrix score placing the site in the high-risk category. The findings highlight the urgent need for targeted mitigation, including vegetation restoration, land-use reorganization, and early warning systems. This research contributes to disaster risk reduction by offering a scientific basis for protecting culturally strategic landscapes exposed to natural hazards. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
