Abstract

This study explores the effects of the Anchored Instruction learning model on enhancing the critical thinking and problem-solving abilities of tenth-grade students at SMK Yayasan Pemuda Indonesia. Employing a quasi-experimental design with a Non-Equivalent Control Group, the research involved 124 students from Grade X at SMK YPI Tanjung Bintang. Participants were selected through random sampling, comprising two groups: the experimental group (X TKJ) and the control group (X TKR 2). Data were gathered using a 20-item test instrument, classroom observations, and written documentation. The findings reveal a significant improvement in students' critical thinking and problem-solving performance as a result of implementing the Anchored Instruction strategy. The hypothesis test showed a significance level of 0.003, which is less than 0.05, confirming the alternative hypothesis. Therefore, the Anchored Instruction model can be considered effective in fostering students' cognitive abilities, especially in understanding concepts such as Newton's Laws. © 2026 Author(s).
