Roads are vital components of a community's land transportation network. Any damage to roads can significantly impact the region's economy and social activities. Moreover, damaged roads pose potential safety hazards and increase the risk of accidents. This research focuses on identifying and analyzing the damage on the 5 km Yogyakarta-Pulowatu road section using the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) method. The PCI method is utilized to assess the road condition by identifying the type, dimensions, and severity of the damage. This method provides a systematic and quantifiable approach to evaluate pavement conditions and prioritize maintenance and repair needs. The research revealed that the predominant type of damage on the Yogyakarta-Pulowatu road section is crocodile cracking, accounting for 56.65% of the total damage. The PCI analysis yielded an average value of 50.4%, indicating that the overall pavement condition is poor. The highest pavement index value of 89% was observed in the section from STA 4+500 to STA 4+550, reflecting good pavement conditions. The lowest pavement index of 10% was found in the section from STA 4+650 to STA 4+700, indicating serious pavement conditions. The analysis of the pavement age suggests that the remaining service life of the road ranges from 0.5 to 0.9 years. This necessitates immediate rehabilitation efforts to improve the road condition and extend its service life. © 2025 Author(s).
