Tidal flooding has been a menace to the northern coastal area of Java, especially in Semarang City and Demak Regency. It happens continuously and the severity is worsened day by day. It becomes hazard for rural and urban areas hence mitigation efforts associated with coastal regions are required. Based on the situation, the present research wants to examine the need and the importance of adaptation strategy in flood prone areas. Several findings were reported and then recommended to the stakeholders to be implemented in policies and programs. The present research was conducted by using descriptive-qualitative method and purposive data sampling. The study area involved Panggung Lor in Semarang City and Sayung in Demak Regency. Analysis was carried out and conclusions were reported based on the findings. In overall, it can be concluded that these areas can adapt to tidal flooding. © 2019 Author(s).
