This paper deals with the development of microstrip antenna incorporated by a defected ground structure (DGS)-embedded magnetic material to attain circular polarization. In order to enhance polarization characteristic, the external magnetic bias using permanent magnets with the value of 10.2 Oe is utilized and arranged at the edge sides of the antenna substrate. Furthermore, the microstrip antenna with the absence of external magnetic bias is also investigated as comparison. The measured result shows that the presence of external magnetic bias can improve the axial ratio of the antenna up to 30% and has a resonant frequency tuning capability. © 2022 The Institute of Electronics Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) of Japan.
