Sleep apnea is a disorder that is often overlooked but is a serious matter to consider. Apart from having a deadly effect, sleep apnea also has side effects that cannot be underestimated. Also, the diagnosis of sleep apnea is often neglected because of the high cost of the equipment and the high price of a sleep test. This study initiated a sleep apnea monitoring equipment design that is low cost and can be used as a reference for determining the diagnosis of sleep apnea severity. This design involves a respiratory belt as a method of measuring respiratory rate and detecting the amount of apnea, a gyroscope and accelerometer as a measure of body rotation and body movement, and an oximeter to measure oxygen levels in blood. This system's output design is to display recorded body activity in graphical form in a web display. The system is also designed to demonstrate the apnea count and apnea-hypopnea index as the degree of severity of the apnea diagnosis. The design results are relatively low cost and efficient for measuring three primary parameters: respiratory rate and apnea count, body rotation and movement, and blood oxygen levels. The design can be implemented and re-tested for diagnostic enforcement and reliability. © 2023 Author(s).
