The waste problem in Indonesia needs to be appropriately managed with a new technique since the conventional technique of "collecting-transporting-disposing"is no longer considered effective. Recently, the zero waste management (Masaro) program offered a promising waste management solution in the local and national communities. The program consists of "sorting-collecting-transporting-processing-selling"of waste. Moreover, the products can be obtained on-site directly. In this study, Masaro was implemented to solve waste issues at Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA). Four waste categories that comprise fast-decaying waste (60 kg/day), slow-decaying waste (2 kg/day), recyclable waste (60 kg/day), and residual waste (85 kg/day) were all efficiently treated. Fast-decaying waste was converted into special organic liquid fertilizer and concentrate. On the other hand, slow-decaying waste was processed into compost and planting growth medium. In addition, recyclable waste was sorted and handled by recycling facilities. The residual waste was converted into wood preservatives, organic pesticides, and planting growth medium. The study shows that all Masaro products can be beneficial for agriculture, livestock, and fishery sectors. Furthermore, this method has a low production cost, reduced production time, and enhanced product quality. This method is designed to realize a zero-waste campus and develop a circular economy at ITERA. © 2025 Author(s).
