This study communicates an investigation on the facile combination of Ti3C2 MXene nanosheet and TiO2 as an efficient catalyst for the photoreduction of bicarbonate to produce formic acid. Ti3C2 has a distinct two-dimensional structure with a nanoscale thickness. Ti3C2 could well interact and envelop the TiO2 particles and decrease the bandgap of the composite. As a result, a bandgap of 2.9 eV, located in the visible light region, could be achieved. The catalytic tests show that Ti3C2/TiO2 composite could produce formic acid up to 7.5 mmol g.cat−1, ∼2.5 times higher than pristine TiO2. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.
