Abstract

Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) filament is widely used as a feedstock material for fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D Printers. 3D Printed ABS is usually used for prototyping, design verification, and fundamental engineering component. In this work, we study the effect of recycling of ABS on their mechanical behavior. ABS filament is recycled up to 4 times, and their tensile and flexural properties are investigated. Results show that an insignificant reduction of tensile and flexural properties is found. It can be inferred that reprocessing of ABS filament up to 4 times does not bring a severe decrease in mechanical properties. Thus, reprocessing of ABS is suggested to reduce the amount of plastic waste. © 2023 Author(s).
